Items That Can Be More Challenging To Move Than You May Think

Published on by John Turner

Moving from a house to another in a different city on your own may seem something doable but it is, in fact, more challenging than what you may think; especially, when you have certain types of items that need consistent care during the transit.

To help you avoid the tricky, and often destined to fail, guesswork while moving, we are going to mention some of the items that can turn out to be extremely difficult while moving.

Plants

Most of the people don’t realize that harsh conditions involved in moving can cause serious plant fatalities. The reason is that plants are among the most vulnerable perishables that need specific environments to survive.

To ensure that plants remain safe is to avoid taking them with you. However, if you still insist on taking your plants rather than giving away, you need to shift your plants to the plastic pots a few days ahead of moving day. This early transition will help the plants to get settled in the new pots. To move the plants, don’t put them in the moving truck. Instead, put them in the vehicle you are traveling in. This way, you can adjust temperatures to ensure maximum safety of the plants.

Heavy fish tank

Fish tank, with or without fishes in it, can be a tough deal if you are intending to move it to the new home. Let’s suppose you are not willing to give your fishes away. Then heaviness of the tank isn’t the only thing you should be worried about. You will also have to ensure that your fishes are secure enough to endure the long travel to reach the new place.

The first thing you should do is to transfer the fishes into a number of containers a few days before moving. Leave some water in the tank to ensure that necessary bacteria don’t die. On the moving day, transport your water tank safely to the truck and make sure that there is fair amount of cushioning applied to its outer side to ensure that glass doesn’t break. While moving fishes, ensure that fishes are not subjected to shocks due to speed bumps. At the new place, fill the water tank but don’t immediately transfer the fishes in it. Instead, leave plastic containers in the tank and give the fishes some time to get settled in the new temperature.

Artwork and other decorative delicate items

Artworks may be smaller in size but moving them to the new place is more difficult than your imagination. These delicate items cannot bear even the minor shocks during the transit and they break. The only way you can ensure the safe transition of these items to apply appropriate cushioning and store them in the sturdier cheap moving boxes. Even though you have applied the layers of cushioning materials on the artworks, make sure to put reasonable amount of packing peanuts in the boxes.
